Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali won the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to resolve his country’s border dispute with Eritrea.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee noted that Abiy Ahmed cooperated with Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki to make a peace agreement between the two African countries.
“An important premise for the breakthrough was Abiy Ahmed’s unconditional willingness to accept the arbitration ruling of an international boundary commission in 2002,” the Norwegian Nobel Committee said. Abiy Ahmed became Ethiopia’s prime minister in April 2018.
