Kawhi Leonard showed ‘em what he’s made of by leading his new team Los Angeles Clippers to a 112-102 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on the opening night of the 2019-20 NBA regular season on October 22.
Leonard scored 30 points and grabbed 6 boards despite getting booed at the Clippers’ home court, Staples Center, which is also home to the Lakers.
Leonard’s former Toronto Raptors teammate, Danny Green, led the Lakers in scoring, with 28 points. Green was followed by Anthony Davis with 25 points, and LeBron James, with 18.
In Toronto, the Raptors received their NBA championship rings in a ceremony led by Kyle Lowry at the Scotiabank Arena. Lowry thanked the Raptors fans and acknowledged his former teammates Leonard and Green, among others.
The defending champions beat the New Orleans Pelicans 130-122 in overtime. The Raptors’ Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet each scored 34 points, with Lowry adding 22.
Brandon Ingram was the leading scorer for the Pelicans with 22 points. The Pelicans played without rookie hotshot Zion Williamson, who underwent knee surgery on October 21.
